
Rice Beats Panthers 82-65

Rice's All-America guard Morris Almond notched his second double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds as the Owls beat Prairie View A&M 82-65 in front of 1,175 fans at Autry Court.
Almond for the night, took only eight shots but converted on six of them including 3-of-5 from three-point range. He also made 13-of-15 from the free throw line.
For the game, the Owls made 71.1 percent of their shots (27-38) which is the second-highest field goal percentage in a game, behind the 71.7 percent made in the season's first game vs. Paul Quinn College. The Owls did commit a season-high 32 turnovers against a hustling PVAM squad, but held the Panthers to just 30 percent shooting from the floor.
Rice led 44-25 at the half after shooting 70 percent from the field and limited Prairie View A&M to 27 percent shooting percentage.
Chris Hagan added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and Lorenzo Williams scored 9 points.
Chris Gaines led Prairie View A&M (1-9) with 23 points.
Rice, now 5-4, is next in action at Saint Mary's College as the Gaels host the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic on Dec. 28-29 in Moraga, Calif. The Owls will play Belmont on the 28th and either Saint Mary's or Western Carolina on the 29th. Rice's next home contest is against Vanderbilt on Jan. 2 at 7:05 pm in Autry Court.
