With final exams completed, the Rice Owls return to action on Wednesday night, Dec. 20 when they host the Panthers of Prairie View A&M at 7:05 pm in Autry Court.
The Panthers (1-8) are led in scoring by freshman guard Ivory McGilvery at 11.0 points per contest. He is the only PVAMU player in double figures as the Panthers have lost seven in a row including their last two games to Conference USA foes, SMU and Tulsa.
All-America Morris Almond has been in double-digits for all eight games this season. He has scored 241 points for a 30.1 scoring average to lead Rice. Almond also leads the Owls in steals with 12 and is second in rebounding (5.3).
Morris Almond is number one in the nation in scoring at 30.1 ppg for games through Dec. 17, 2006. He is only averaging 18.5 field goal attempts a game and only 5.5 three-point field goal attempts per game. In his last three games, Almond is 35-50 (70 percent) from the field and 15-19 beyond the arc (79 percent).
Following Wednesday's game, the Owls will play Belmont at the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic (Saint Mary's College) on Dec. 28, while Saint Mary's battles Western Carolina. The two winning teams will face each other and the two losing teams will meet on Dec. 29.
