Series: Utah leads 5-1
Saturday's game is the sixth meeting between Rice and Utah. The Utes hold a 5-1 edge in the series with the Owls winning last year in triple overtime, 96-94. J.R. Harrison had 27 points, Lorenzo Williams 23, and Morris Almond 20 for Rice. Bryant Markson and Luke Nevill led Utah with 19 points each.
Recently, the Owls were defeated 79-73 in overtime by Oregon. Morris Almond led Rice with 28 points and Patrick Britton pulled down 8 rebounds. The Ducks rallied from an 8-point deficit with 56 seconds left by hitting three-pointers as the Owls only made 16 of 30 free throws. Remarkable it may seem, but Almond only shot two free throws during the game and that was not until the 1:43 mark in the second-half.
All-America candidate Morris Almond has been in double-digits for all five games this season. He has scored 134 points for a 26.8 scoring average to lead Rice. Almond also leads the Owls in rebounding (6.2) and in steals (10).
Luke Nevill leads UU with a 16.7 scoring average and he also leads Utah in rebounding at 7.3 rpg. Johnnie Bryant averages 15.0 ppg and Shaun Green follows at 11.0 ppg.
Following the Utah game, the Owls will have a week off until the Dec. 2 home game vs. UT-Permian Basin at 7 pm (CT).
