
Owls Win on Road Against Southern Mississippi, 67-61

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Morris Almond had 21 points and Rice beat Southern Mississippi 67-61 on Wednesday night.
Lorenzo Williams added 15 points for the Owls (9-9, 3-2 Conference USA), who led by as many as 11 in snapping a two-game losing streak.
Rice shot 58 percent and made 8-of-10 attempts from 3-point range. Williams was 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Courtney Beasley had 18 points to lead Southern Miss (7-13, 1-4), which has lost four straight.
Rice used a 7-0 run early in the second half to take a 46-35 lead. Southern Miss cut it to 54-53 on a jumper by Craig Craft with 4:16 to play, but the Owls scored five straight points to put the game away.
David Cornwell had 11 points and Jason Forte added 10 for the Golden Eagles.
J.R. Harrison finished with 10 points for Rice.
