SAN ANTONIO -- Rice fell to 6-2 on the year Sunday afternoon after a 32-30, 30-17, 30-20 loss to Louisiana State at the UTSA Dome Rally at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 5-0, but the Owls began chipping away at the lead, finally tying the score at 13 and again at 14. Rice then took advantage of a a pair of LSU hitting errors to take the momentum and slowly build a five point lead (27-22). The Tigers though, fought back to tie the score at 29 then held on for the win.
LSU took control of the match in games two and three as the Owls struggled offensively.
Freshman Karyn Morgan led Rice with eight kills and sophomore Yvette Kirk had nine digs.
Senior right-side hitter Olaya Pazo earned a spot on the all-tournament team after leading the Owls to wins against Oklahoma and UTSA.
The Owls hit the road again next weekend, traveling to Champaign, Ill., to face Illinos-Chicago on Friday and either Illinois or Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
