
Rice Retuns to the Hardwood at Murray State

The Rice basketball team returns to action on Friday, Dec. 30 when it plays at Murray State at 7:30 pm. The game vs. the Racers is the first for the Owls in nine days after they defeated Texas Southern 81-65 on Dec. 21.
Murray State sports a 5-3 mark after losing at Samford 61-50 on Dec. 21. Issian Redding leads the squad in scoring at 13.4 ppg, while Shawn Witherspoon is at 10.4 and Justin Orr averages 10.0 ppg. Witherspoon also leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 boards a game.
Last year Murray State defeated Rice 69-63, by outscoring the Owls 23-9 in the last seven minutes of the contest.
Junior Morris Almond leads Rice in scoring and is second in Conference USA at 17.6 ppg. Almond is shooting 53 percent from the field (71-135) and 50 percent from beyond the arc (19-38) to lead the Owls in both categories.
Senior J.R. Harrison and junior Lorenzo Williams each average 12.7 ppg. Harrison is tops on the squad in rebounding at 7.4, while Williams leads the team in assists with 53.
Following the trip to Murray, Ky., the Owls return to host Ivy League competition. Yale pays a visit on Jan. 2, while Princeton makes an appearance on Jan. 5. Both games tip-off at 7:05 pm at historic Autry Court.
