
Rice Beats Palm Beach Atlantic, 93-54

Houston - The Rice Owls broke an 11-11 tie with a 29-2 run in the first half to break away from Palm Beach Atlantic and went on to win 93-54 in front of 1,351 fans at historic Autry Court. The Owls did outscore PBA 50-17 in the first half. Rice evened its record to 4-4, while the Sailfish drop to 2-10.
In the 29-2 run, point guard Lorenzo Williams scored 11 points on 5-5 shooting, while junior Morris Almond tallied eight points. Almond finished the night with game-high scoring honors with a career-high 21 points. He also snared a career-high 8 rebounds. Williams completed the evening with 13 points by making all six shots he attempted in the first half. Cory Pflieger came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points and he led the squad in rebounding with a career-high 9 rebounds.
For the game, no Owl played more than 24 minutes (Rodney Foster) and 13 of 14 players that played scored at least 2 points. The 50 points scored in the first half was the most points that Rice has scored in any half this season.
Rice shot 60 percent from the field in the first stanza and 56 percent in the second half to finish with a season-high 58.3 percent from the field. The Owls also had a season-high 21 assists.
The Sailfish was led by Spencer Lee's 10 points.
Rice now travels to North Little Rock, Ark., to face Arkansas on Saturday, Dec. 17. Tip-off at the Alltel Arena is set for 7:35 pm.
