
Rice Beats Prairie View A&M - 67-58

Houston - Jamaal Moore led all scorers with 15 points and J.R. Harrison posted a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead the Rice Owls past Prairie View A&M at Autry Court in front of 1,444 fans.
The game was tight in the early going with PVAM taking a 9-8 lead on a jumper by Chris Gaines. The Owls then regained the lead on their next possession on a Patrick Britton tip-in at 15:31. Rice would then not trail the rest of the contest. Morris Almond nailed a three-pointer at 3:54 to give Rice its biggest lead of the first-half at 29-18 (3:54). But, the Panthers closed -out the half with three straight buckets to be only down five (29-24).
Philip Scott brought PVAM to within 2 at 31-29 on a three-pointer at 18:13 in second-half, but Rice true freshman Cory Pflieger answered with a trey of his own to push the lead back to five. The Owls got their biggest lead of the game at 48-34 (+14) on an Almond layup with 12:20 to play.
Prairie View A&M hung in the game and whittled the 14-point deficit to five at 6:25 (55-50) as Jeremy Wiley made one of two free throws. Rice then was able to outscore the Panthers 12-8 in the final six minutes. The Owls were able to connect on 7-8 free throws in those last six minutes despite going 10-21 prior to that.
For the game, Rice (2-3) made 50 percent of its field goals (22-44) and 50 percent of its three-pointers (6-12). Rodney Foster was the only other Owl in doubl-digits with a career-high 10 points and Patrick Britton tied his career-high with 4 blocked shots.
The Panthers (1-2) shot 38 percent from the field (23-60) and made 5-19 from beyond the arc (26 percent)
Rice now hosts Utah in a CSTV televised-game at 3 pm in Autry Court on Saturday.
