
Rice Hosts New Mexico Highlands

The Rice Owls basketball team (0-2) hosts New Mexico Highlands (1-1) Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Autry Court. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm. The game can be heard via only the Internet at: www.ktru.org/ktruwmp2002.asx with Robert Henslee and Shawn Respert calling the action.
New Mexico Highlands, a NCAA Div. II institution located in Las Vegas, N.M., has five players averaging in double-figures. Robert Franklin leads the Cowboys at 19.5 ppg, while Gene Gonzales averages 14.5 and Brandon Weaver is a 13.0. Jeremy Lopez and Donald Gray each average 13.0 ppg. Franklin and Lopez lead NMHU on the boards by averaging 8.5 rpg. The Cowboys have defeated Western New Mexico (93-84) and lost to West Texas A&M (81-71).
The Owls are led in scoring by junior Morris Almond at 16.0 ppg. He scored a career-high 21 points vs. IUPUI. Senior J.R. Harrison averages 13.5 ppg and he leads the squad in rebounding at 7.0 rpg.
