Hartford, Conn. - Rashad Anderson scored 27 points and Josh Boone added a career-high 20 as 11th-ranked Connecticut clawed its way to an 81-72 victory over Rice. UConn, which leads the nation in rebounding, outrebounded Rice 61-34 and with 31 offense rebounds the Huskies were able to score 24 second-chance points.

Michael Harris scored 22 points to lead the Owls and Lorenzo Williams scored a career-high 13 for Rice, which committed 26 fouls, allowing the Huskies to convert 25-of-35 free throws. The Owls scored 31 field goals compared UConn's 25 field goals. For Harris, it was his fourth-straight game to score 20 or more points. He was just one rebound shy of securing his sixth double-double of the season.

In their first game since being shocked by Massachusetts, 61-59, on December 9, the Huskies (5-1) struggled through numerous rough patches as the Rice defense held the defending national champions shot just 35 percent (25-of-71) from the field, including 6-of-20 from the arc.

Anderson was Connecticut's lone long-range threat, hitting 5-of-14 3-pointers. Boone dominated inside, making 7-of-14 shots and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Taking advantage of the Huskies' sloppy play, the Owls (5-2) hung around in the first half, tying the score at 32-32 on a steal and fast break layup by Lorenzo Williams with 5:50 remaining.

Connecticut responded with a 9-2 run that included a layup and a 3-pointer by Anderson for a 41-34 edge with 3:46 left.

The Owls now play at Syracuse on Wednesday, Dec. 22.
