Men's Basketball: Owls Defeat Augustana College

Jason McKrieth led Rice with seven assists in its 92-68 exhibition win over Augustana College.

Houston ? With four players scoring in double-figures, led by senior Michael Harris' 25 points, the Rice Owls defeated Augustana College 92-68 in an exhibition game at Rice's Autry Court. Also scoring in double-figures was Lorenzo Williams with 15 off the bench, Morris Almond also came off the bench to add 14 points, and J.R. Harrison had 12.

Harris also had a game-high 12 rebounds while Jason McKrieth dished out a game-high seven assists. Augustana College, a NCAA Div. II school from Sioux Falls, S.D. was led by Jerald Richardson and Excell Hardy, who each had 11 points, while Ray Taken Alive scored 10 points.

"Though we won the game, I was a little disappointed with our defensive effort," said Rice head coach Willis Wilson. "We also have to be more disciplined for us to have a successful season."

The Owls were ahead 11-6 at the 13:32 mark in the first half when they went on a 12-0 in the next four minutes before Augustana scored again to forge a 23-8 lead. Rice then outscored the Vikings 23-13 in the last eight minutes of the first half.

Rice now has 10 days before it opens its regular season on Sat., Nov. 20 when it hosts Mobile for an afternoon tip-off at 3:05 pm in Autry Court.
