and Eric Rutledge
each picked up opening round wins and Sarkar saw his hopes of a second-round upset delayed when rains interrupted further action in the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana on Friday.
Sarkar trounced Oklahoma State's Maxim Tybar 6-2, 6-4 and was at set point in a second-set tiebreker against Texas's 62nd
ranked Leo Telles when play was suspended. Telles took the first set 6-4, but the pair were tied 6-6 with Sarkar holding a 6-5 lead as play was halted.
Rutledge, who is ranked 98th in the Oracle/ITA Fall rankings and was seeded fourth in the tournament, outlasted Louisiana's Arthur Libaud
4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in his opener and then dropped a 7-6 (4), 6-0 decision to 114th ranked Mathieu Scaglia of Oklahoma State.
Play resumes on Saturday morning with the completion of the Sarkar-Telles match. Singles semifinals will follow later on Saturday morning, followed by the start of doubles play. Rutledge and Sarkar, who are seeded second, will face Louisiana's Jan Galka and Kacper Dworak in an opening round match.
