Mitchell Meissner Named C-USA Co-Golfer of the Week

HOUSTON, Texas — Coming off his victory at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate, senior golfer Mitchell Meissner was named Conference USA Co-Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

It is his second career Golfer of the Week honor and is Rice's second of the season. He also won the award during the 2015-16 season.

Meissner's performance led the Owls to their first tournament title since the 2017 Jim West Intercollegiate.

The San Antonio native became just the second Rice golfer since 1985 with multiple career victories. It was also the first time since 2010 that Rice won both the team and individual titles.

Meissner began the tournament with a season-best 67. He birdied three of the first four holes before recording pars on the next nine holes. After giving one back on the 14th hole, the San Antonio native birdied two of the final three holes. Meissner backed that up with a 69 in the second round.

Meissner carded a final round 72 to finish five-under par. The two rounds in the 60's give him five rounds this year and 11 for his career. He also has 15 rounds of par or better this year and 36 for his career. Meissner also tied his career-low 36-hole score with a 136, which is tied for the third lowest since 1990, and set a season-low 54-hole score of 208, which is tied the fourth lowest score since 1990.

The senior led the tournament in par four scoring (-5) He recorded 12 birdies and led the tournament with 36 pars.
