Loxley, Ala. — Rice closed its fall slate with a 10th
-place finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country Club.
The Owls closed with a final round 307 to finish 34-over par.
Sophomore Jake Benson
led the Owls in a tie for 31st
-place at six-over par after finishing with a 79.
Junior Nicholas Duggan
shot a 73 to finish seven-over par in a 38th
-place tie. Senior Grant Rogers
carded a 76 to finish nine-over par and tied for 43rd
Senior Mason Weld
finished in 54th
-place at 14-over par after closing with a 79. Freshman Jack Diamond
, playing in his first collegiate tournament, posted a 75 to finish 15-over par to tie for 55th
-place and sophomore Rishi Kejriwal
finished in 68th
-place at 33-over par after carding an 89.
"We just couldn't put it together today," said Rice head coach Justin Emil
. "The offseason is next for us. We're looking forward to hitting the books in the classroom and finding ways to get better on the golf course."
No. 7 Wake Forest won the tournament at 20-under par, 16 strokes in front of Mississippi State. Wake Forest's Eric Bae leads the individual tournament at nine-under par, two strokes in front of Indiana's Brock Ochsenreiter.
Rice will take a break until February when it begins the spring season co-hosting the All-American Intercollegiate, Feb. 17-19.
