Filip Named C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year

IRVING, Texas – Rice junior decathlete Scott Filip was named the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Friday (June 16).

Filip, a native of Bloomingdale, Ill., earned USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors with a fifth place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships two weeks ago in Eugene, Oregon.

Filip was selected the C-USA Performer of the Meet after winning the C-USA Outdoor decathlon title with a C-USA record 7837 points. In addition to winning a C-USA Athlete of the Week (4/4/17), Filip scored 7915 points at the Texas Relays, a mark that ranked seventh in the nation. Filip also made his presence felt during the indoor campaign, winning the C-USA Indoor heptathlon title (5680 points).

With the outdoor season in his rear view mirror, Filip is set to compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships June 22-23 in Sacramento, Calif.
