NCAA West Prelims Results

- Senior distance runner Cali Roper ran the final race of her sensational Rice career by placing 34th in the 10,000m Thursday evening at the NCAA West Prelims.

Roper, who ended her career as a seven-time C-USA track and field champion, ran Thursday's race in a time of 36:28.11. Including cross country, Roper won nine C-USA individual titles.

"It didn't go well for Cali tonight and she's been fighting an underlying problem this year," Rice women's T&F head coach Jim Bevan said. "Cali is one of our all-time greats and has been a conference champion in the 10k, 5k, 3k and cross country. She was a multi-time qualifier for national meets as well as our rock and a leader of two cross country championship teams, and one track team. I cannot say enough great things about Cali, she's a jewel in every way; academically, athletically, as a leader and as a teammate. She exudes all the qualities we want to have from a Rice Owl."

The Owls will have three more athletes competing in Austin the rest of the week, which includes redshirt freshman Hannah Jackson in the 200m tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Seniors Daisy Ding and Cybil Obiozor will compete in the triple jump on Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m.
