Bastrop, Texas — The final round of the Jim West Intercollegiate was cancelled due to rain. With the cancellation, the final tournament results revert back to the end of the second round, giving Rice the tournament championship.
It is the Owls' first tournament title since winning the 2014 Conference USA Championship.
"I'm really proud of our team and how they hung in there yesterday, never giving up and fighting to the end of a long 36 hole day," said head coach Justin Emil. "It's been an eventful year with some ups and downs. To end the regular season with a win is special."
The Owls finished two-under par, one-stroke ahead of Southeastern Louisiana. Rice opened with a 289 before closing the day with a three-under 285, its eighth round of par or better this year.
Junior Mario Carmona tied for second place at five-under par, three shots behind individual medalist Ryo Harada of New Mexico State. The finish is a season-best for Carmona and his third career runner-up finish. It is also his second top-five finish of the year and the fourth of his career.
Freshman Nicholas Duggan finished in a career-best 12th-place at two-under par. It is his second top-20 finish this season.
Junior Mitchell Meissner tied for 23rd-place at two-over par. Freshman Trevor Brown tied at three-over par in 25th-place and sophomore Grant Rogers finished in a tie for 44th-place at eight-over par.
Rice will return to the links in two weeks when it travels to Texarkana, Ark., for the Conference USA Championship, Sunday-Wednesday, April 23-16.
