Owls To Host UNC-Greensboro in WBI Championship
The Rice Owls women's basketball team (21-13) will play in the team's first-ever postseason championship (outside of a conference tournament) on Sunday when they host the UNC-Greensboro Spartans (20-14) on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the WBI Championship at Tudor Fieldhouse. Sunday will mark the Owls seventh appearance in a postseason title game (including conference tournaments) and the first since 2007 when they lost to ECU in C-USA championship. The Owls are 2-4 (2-2 in WAC, 0-2 in C-USA)all-time in postseason title games.
20 Wins and Climbing
With their win last Sunday the Owls (21-13) recorded their first 20-win since 2004-05 and the eighth overall in school history. The Owls are one of five teams in Conference USA with 20 or more wins. Rice's 21 wins are tie for the third-most in school history and are the most victories by a Rice team since the 2004-05 season.

Owls Postseason History
The Owls are making their 11th career appearance in the postseason and the first since 2012. Rice has participated in the WNIT seven times, the NCAA Tournament twice, and now the WBI two times. The Owls are 8-8 all-time in postseason play.
Last Time Out
Senior guard Maya Hawkins led a potent Rice offensive attack as one of five Owls to score in double-figures in a thrilling 86-80 victory over Idaho Thursday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse to advance to the Women's Basketball Invitational championship. Hawkins tied a season-high with 25 points on 11-of-20 shooting and also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds along with a team-best five assists in 39 minutes of action. In addition to Hawkins the Owls received double-figure scoring performances from Nicole Iademarco (17 points), Wendy Knight (14 points), Shani Rainey (11 points) and Lauren Grigsby (10 points).
Hawkins Chasing 1,000 Points
Rice senior guard Maya Hawkins will enter play on Sunday looking to put an exclamation point on her brilliant career. Hawkins sits at 986 career points and will be vying to become the 17th player in Rice history to surpass 1,000 career points. Senior teammate Jasmine Goodwine accomplished the feat earlier this year.
Home Sweet Home
Rice picked up their 12th home victory of the season on Thursday, matching the 2001-02 and 2004-05 teams for the most home wins in a single season in school history.
Getting to Know UNC-Greensboro
The Spartans have won 10 of their last 13 games but are just 5-9 on the road this season. UNCG ranks 28th in the nation in total rebounds and are led in scoring by Nadine Soliman (16.3 ppg). Rice is 2-0 all-time against the Spartans, having last played and won (61-47) in 2001.
