IRVING, Texas - Rice senior Katie Jensen was awarded the Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week following her record-setting performance at the Houston Invitational last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday (1/31).
Jensen, from The Woodlands (College Park HS), set a lifetime best mark of 9:21.99 to win the 3000m at the Houston Invitational last Saturday and in the process broke former Rice standout Lennie Waite's meet record of 9:27.55. Jensen leads all C-USA runners this season in the 3000m by nearly seven seconds and ranks 21st in the nation.
In addition to the 3000m, Jensen also ranks fifth in the mile (4:59.13) among C-USA competitors this indoor season.
The Owls indoor T&F squad will be back in action this weekend (Jan. 27-28) when they partake in the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
