The Rice men's tennis team opens a flurry of weekend dual action when they host 16th ranked Texas A&M at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by matches with UTA (noon) and Prairie View A&M (5 p.m.) on Sunday.
The first fans attending the match will receive a coupon from a food truck which will be parked at the complex during the match.
The Owls picked up votes in the Oracle/ITA national poll after sweeping a pair of duals last weekend against UTRGV and Lamar while Saturday's match will be the dual opener for the Aggies, who lead the all-time series 35-4 and have won the last seven meetings. The Owls last win in the series was a 4-3 win in College Station in 2009.
Saturday's dual should open with a battle between two of the nation's top ten doubles teams. The Aggies' Arthur Rinderknech and Max Lukin are ranked seventh, while Tommy Bennett and David Warren of Rice are currently ranked ninth.
Rice has never lost to either UTA (17-0) or Prairie View (10-0) in dual action. The Mavericks, who captured the Sun Belt title last year, will be the second 2016 conference champion to face the Owl in the opening weeks of the season. Rice downed Southland champ Lamar last weekend.
The weekend action closes a homestand for the Owls, who will not return to the GRBTC until March 3. They will compete in the ITA Kickoff event next weekend when they take on Oregon at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
