HOUSTON —The Rice golf team will play its final tournament of the regular season when it travels to Bastrop for the Jim West Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,205-yard Wolfdancer Golf Club.
The Owls will play 36 holes on Monday and conclude the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.
Rice will be joined by three teams in the top 100 of Golfstat's rankings, including No. 58 North Texas, No. 60 Saint Mary's and No. 71 McNeese State. Also participating is Abilene Christian, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, host Texas State, UT-Arlington and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
"This is an exciting time of the year for us," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "We have one last regular season even before we head to Texarkana for the conference championship. We have a chance this week to grab back some momentum that we had in March."
Mario Carmona will lead the Owls in the No. 1 position for the fifth straight tournament and the seventh time this year. The sophomore leads the team in stroke average with 73.56 per round. He has a team-leading four top 20 finishes on the year, including two top five finishes.
In the No. 2 position is Will Voetsch. The freshman is second on the team with a stroke average of 74.07. The New Vernon, N.J., native has a team-high four top-20 finishes, including a tie for 20th-place at last week's Mason Rudolph Championship.
Junior Kevin Reilly will tee off in the No. 3 position. He has a stroke average of 74.70 this year and has one top five, two top ten and three top 20 finishes.
James Lee will tee off in the No. 4 position. The senior is averaging 75.00 strokes per round and Mitchell Meissner will tee off in the fifth spot. The sophomore is averaging 77.06 strokes in 18 rounds this year. Alex Levy will play as an individual. The junior is averaging 78.38 strokes in eight rounds this year.
Play begins Monday morning with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Owls are paired with McNeese State, North Texas and Saint Mary's and will tee off from holes one through four.
