HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's basketball team led from start to finish in a convincing 79-53 victory at Houston Baptist Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym.

Rice (2-1) used a balanced offensive attack to record their first road win of the season and improve to 3-0 all-time against the Huskies (0-3). Four Owls scored in double-figures on the afternoon, including a team-high 13 points from junior guard Wendy Knight, who made 4-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc. The Owls made 11 three-pointers as a team and shot 42 percent from long distance.

Joining Knight in double-figure scoring was senior guard Maya Hawkins (12), freshman forward Kendall Ellig (12) and senior forward Jasmine Goodwine (10).

Redshirt sophomore transfer Nicole Iademarco (Arizona St.) also made her Rice debut and contributed nine points and six rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.

Rice limited the Huskies to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and forced 19 turnovers, of which the Owls converted into 25 points. The Owls also had a big advantage in second chance points, 21-5.

Rice outscored HBU 31-12 in the opening quarter and never looked back. The 31 points were the most by the Owls in a single quarter since the new quarter rules were implemented last season. Rice had an 11-0 points off turnovers advantage in that opening period alone and 12 second chance points. Senior guard Maya Hawkins scored nine points in the quarter while Knight pitched in seven points.

The Owls would open up a lead as large as 31 points (61-30) and never saw the margin dip below 20 points the rest of the way.

Next up for the Owls will be a home tilt against Grand Canyon (1-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
