HOUSTON — The Rice men's basketball team held its first practice in Fox Gym this afternoon in preparation for the 2016-17 season
Third-year head coach Mike Rhoades returns seven letterwinners and four starters off of last year's team, including Conference USA Freshman of the Year Marcus Evans. Rice also added seven newcomers.
"I'm really excited," said Rhoades. "Our guys are excited. This is the next step in our program; to move forward this season and today was a great start. We have a full roster. We have bodies. We don't have to pace the practice based on numbers. For two years we were strategic about the way we practiced. Now it's all out. It's all out from the beginning of practice until the end."
Rice begins the 2016-17 campaign on Nov. 5 when it hosts Our Lady of the Lake in an exhibition game. The regular season begins on Nov. 13 at James Madison.
All home games with the exception of the Dec. 15 game against St. Edward's (11:45 a.m.) and the Jan. 14 game against North Texas (2 p.m.) will be played at 7 p.m.
