IRVING, Texas -- Rice's Daisy Ding and Cali Roper were named Conference USA Female Field Performer and Co-Track Performer of the Meet, respectively, the league office announced on Friday.
The athletes were chosen in voting done by the C-USA track and field coaches earlier this week, based on their performances at the C-USA Outdoor Championships. The award for Ding is the first of her career while Roper's is her second this year, having also won the C-USA Indoor Track Performer of the Meet back in March.
Ding, from Sydney, Australia, completed a season's sweep of the triple jump at the C-USA Championships with a lifetime best mark of 12.99m (42-07.50) to win her first career C-USA Outdoor title and moved to 21st in the nation.
Roper became the second Owl in school history to win consecutive C-USA Outdoor 10,000m titles with a first place finish of 36:14.70. The Conroe, Texas native came back two days later to place second in the 5,000m (17:0263), leading all but the final stretch and still breaking a Kidd Field record.
Both Ding and Roper will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor West Prelims, May 28-30, in Austin, Texas.
