Women's T&F Thrives in Field Events

The Rice Owls women's track and field squad recorded three second place finishes in field events to highlight Saturday's 12th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.

The trio of Marielle Brisbois (pole vault), Belle MacFarlane (high jump) and Cybil Obiozor (triple jump) all placed second overall in their respective events. In addition, Tyneisha McCoy finished third overall in the 100m dash (12.34).

Brisbois recorded an outdoor career-best mark of 4.04m (13-03.00) in the pole vault but was bested by Sam Houston State's Kara Whitson in a jump-off. MacFarlane recorded a mark of 1.71m (5-07.25) in the high jump, her fourth top-three performance of the outdoor season.

Obiozor, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, overtook teammate Daisy Ding for the number one mark in the triple jump with a lifetime best result of 12.86m (42-02.25). Other top five finishes by the Owls included Dre Dixson in the hammer (4th- 48.81m), Alicia Janke in the pole vault (4th- 3.74m), Ijeoma Ugwunze in the shot put (4th- 13.73m) and Amanda Pasko in the javelin (4th- 38.97m).

The Owls will next compete at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. on May 9, the final meet before the C-USA Outdoor Championships May 14-17.
