-- Rice junior thrower Evan Karakolis
recorded his eighth career top-three finish by placing second in the javelin Friday at the Texas Relays.
The Scarborough, Ontario native had his second 70m-plus throw of the season and third of his career, unloading a throw of 70.29m on his final attempt of the event. Karakolis finished behind Texas' Fabian Dohmann (70.86m), who won the event on his final throw.
Karakolis was coming off a stellar outdoor debut in which he broke his own school record of with a 72.76m mark that won at the TSU Relays and helped the junior earn C-USA Male Athlete of the Week honors.
The Owls will have a few more competitors on Saturday with Chris Pillow
in the pole vault (3 p.m.) and Ben Pressley
in the long jump (3 p.m.).
