SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After a strong showing at last week's Border Olympics, Rice University men's golf looks to build momentum at the Lone Star Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament takes place at the par-72, 7,427-yard Briggs Ranch Country Club.
Following a practice round on Sunday, the event officially gets underway on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the first and second rounds. The third round begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start as well.
Head coach Justin Emil said, "I have a really good feeling about San Antonio this week because we made a lot of progress last week and the guys are really jacked up about the last two tournaments leading into conference. We're just trying to create a little bit of momentum and build some confidence leading up to the conference championship, where we are the defending champions."
Rice claimed seventh place out of 15 teams in last year's event with a 283-292-295--870 (+6). Tommy Economou and Kevin Reilly tied for the team lead in 20th place at 216 (E). James Lee and Alex Levy followed in 30th place at 220 (+4), while senior Landon Michelson carded a 222 (+6) to take 47th.

Fourteen teams join the Owls and host UTSA in San Antonio, including Bowling Green, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Louisiana-Lafayette, 2014 tournament champion New Mexico, North Texas, Ohio State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, Texas Tech and UT Arlington.
Following the Lone Star Invite, the Owls travel to Austin for the Jim West Intercollegiate on April 6-7 as the team's final tune-up for the Conference USA Championship on April 26-29.
