First year players Justin Bickham, Parker Smith, Samuel Stewart and Austin Walter have been named to the 2015 C-USA Football All-Freshman team as selected in a vote of conference coaches. The four selections to the team match Middle Tennessee and FAU for the most from any school in the conference.
The four selections match the most in school history. Rice also had saw four players honored in 2012 ( Christian Covington, Dennis Parks, Luke Turner and Caleb Williams).
Bickham led the Owls with five pass breakups while taking over as a starter for the final five games as a true freshman.
Smith came on strong over the last half of the year, catching 14 of his 16 passes over the final three games, including a career-best seven at UTSA.
Stewart was one of for Rice running backs to top 100 yards rushing in a game, finishing with a season-high 130 at Texas. He was third on the team with 388 yards on the year as well as six touchdowns and 685 all-purpose yards.
Walter posted the fifth-best kickoff return total in school history (652 yards) and ranked eighth in the league with an average of 21.7 yards per game. He led the Owls with 1,097 all-purpose yards and was second on the team with 437 yards rushing.
