The Rice swim team returns to action this weekend by competing in the UIW Christmas Invitational, a three-day, five-team meet in San Antonio on Dec. 18-20.
The annual meet hosted by the University of the Incarnate Word is structured for at least five swim events on each of the three days, with a morning round of preliminary qualifying races followed by an evening session of championship and consolation finals.
A meet of this size, and against state rivals such as Houston, North Texas and UIW, may be just what the swimmers need to let off a little steam after finishing the University's final exams of the semester. Even if the Owls don't need the meet as a way to decompress, head coach Seth Huston reports in the above video preview the Blue & Gray has successfully balanced training and finals the last two weeks.
The UIW Christmas Invitational will be held at the Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio. Preliminary races begin each morning at 10:45 am, while event finals begin at 6 pm. A men's swimming and diving meet will be held simultaneously. The schedule for Invitational swim events is as follows:
