Leaving the The Lone Star State
The Rice Owls women's basketball team (6-10, 1-4) will make their first trip out of the state of Texas this season to play the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (10-6, 3-2) in Hattiesburg on Thursday at 6 p.m. Rice will be trying to snap a season-high, four-game losing streak while Southern Miss is coming off a 62-49 loss at UAB. The Owls hold a 5-4 edge in the all-time series.

Last Time Out
Despite three players scoring in double-figures, the Owls were unable to get key stops down the stretch in a 62-59 home loss to the Charlotte 49ers last Saturday. Rice was led in scoring by Jasmine Goodwine, who scored 15 points while senior post Christal Porter chipped in 14 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Southern Miss Scouting Report
The Golden Eagles have alternated wins and losses in their previous four games, the highlight being a 77-75 overtime victory at Middle Tennessee. Senior forward Tamara Jones is third in C-USA in scoring, averaging 17.4 points while junior guard Jerontay Clemons is averaging nearly 12 points per game. USM leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (.376) while the Owls lead all C-USA teams in three-point field goal defense (.252).

Halfway There
Out of the 16 games the Owls have played thus far, they have taken a lead into halftime in 12 of them and hold a 5-7 record in such instances. The Owls have outscored their opponents 457-419 in the first half this season but the tables have been flipped in the final 20 minutes, trailing for the season 526-472.

Goodwine Finding Her Groove
After four consecutive games of being held to single-digit scoring, sophomore forward Jasmine Goodwine has bounced back with back-to-back double-figure scoring performances. After scoring 13 points on 50% shooting against Old Dominion, Goodwine scored a team-high 15 points in the Owls' loss to Charlotte. Goodwine has shot 12-of-24 (50%) from the field in the last two contests.
