Czyz & Hughes Named To C-USA Soccer's All-Academic Teams

Nov. 5, 2014

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rice's Amy Czyz and Lauren Hughes have both been named to the 2014 Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday (Nov. 5) from the C-USA championship tournament this week in Charlotte, N.C.

The C-USA office honored a total of 22 student-athletes for women's soccer with an All-Academic first and second team. Czyz was named to the first team after maintaining a 3.62 grade point average in Sports Management. On the soccer field the senior goalkeeper from Danville, Calif., maintained an austere 0.74 goals-against average with 64 saves and a total of seven shutouts. Hughes is also a sports management major, earning second team academic honors with a 3.32 grade point average. The C-USA head coaches voted Hughes as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year after the junior forward from Ottawa, Ontario, led the league with 12 goals scored.

The Rice soccer team is next in action against Western Kentucky on Nov. 5 (Wed.) in the opening game of the C-USA Championship. Start time against the Hilltoppers is set for 10 am (Central Time) at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C. The league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament is on the line at the week-long, eight-team, single-elimination event. The tournament's championship final is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 1 pm (Central), and slated for a live television broadcast by FOX Sports Net.
