HOUSTON - Junior Casey Clark won three individual events to lead the Owl swimmers on the final day of competition at the Rice Invitational Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26) at the Aquatics Center Competition Pool.

Combined with the four events Rice won in Friday's opening session of the two-day format, the Owls posted wins in a total of 14 of the meet's 18 swim events to claim the meet title. Rice won the meet with a total of 113 points. The University of Houston finished second with 64 points and Incarnate Word was third (34 pts).

The Owls were all business Saturday and Clark led the way with wins in all three of her individual events. She opened with a win over 19 other competitors in the 100-butterfly (55:45) and then came back three events later to lead a 1-2-3-4 Rice finish in the 100-backstroke with a time of 57.90. Clark then made it three-for-three with a convincing victory in the 200-butterfly over 13 other entries (2:02.46).

Rice collected eight other individual wins Saturday by four different Owls, including Rachel Moody in both breaststroke events (1:04.98 & 2:21.94), Erin Flanigan in the mile (17:22.95), Shelly Patton in the 400-individual medley (4:28.02) and Taylor Armstrong in the 200-backstroke (2:05.56).

Patton, Moody and Marissa Konicke and Karina Wlostowska combined for a win in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:47.14. The Owl foursome of Clark, Chelsea Fong, Marita Sailor and Patton held off a challenge to win the 400-freestyle relay (3:30.83). Over the two day meet Clark swam on three of Rice's winning relays in addition to the three individual wins.

The Rice swim team will be back in action next weekend with a pair of dual meets at the Owls home pool. The Blue & Gray compete against longtime rival SMU on Friday (Nov. 1) at 4 pm, followed by a Conference USA clash with North Texas at 12 noon on Saturday.
