The Rice women's basketball clinched a first-round bye with a victory over rival SMU last Thursday and by virtue of Houston defeating Tulane (90-84) the Owls are the No. 3 seed, which is the program's highest since Rice served as the No. 2 seed in its first year in the conference (2005-06). The Owls (18-12) enter championship week with its first winning season since the 2007 squad played in the WNIT. No. 6 seed Memphis (19-11) will face No. 11 seed Southern Miss (10-19) in the opening round, with the winner advancing to face Rice in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. (Mountain).

The four-day, 11-game championship runs Wednesday through Saturday at Memorial Gym and the Don Haskins Center on UTEP's campus in El Paso, Texas. The first two rounds of the women's basketball tournament will be played in Memorial Gym (capacity 5,200), across the street from the Don Haskins Center. The venue was home to the Miners men's basketball team for a number of years, including the 1966 NCAA Championship team.

The semifinals and finals of the women's tournament will be played in the Don Haskins Center, which is hosting the entire men's basketball tournament. Wednesday and Thursday's games are scheduled to tip at 12 p.m. MT, while Friday's semifinals have a 9 a.m. start time. The championship game is slated for 6 p.m. MT. CBS College Sports will televise the final three games.

All-session ticket passes to the tournament may be purchased for as low as $80, which will afford fans entry to 22 total games (men's & women's). Please call (915) 747-6150 for all ticket orders and inquiries.
