Feb. 27, 2011

Box Score

The 16th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks turned back a strong challenge from 44th ranked Rice, defeating the Owls 5-2 at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Sunday.

"It's always disappointing to lose, especially since we feel like we had our chances," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "However, our team can walk tall knowing that they left everything they had out on the court today. Now, we'll get ready for another great opportunity on Tuesday against Tulsa."

After splitting the first two doubles matches, Arkansas grabbed the doubles point and the lead in the match with a win at No. 3.

Rice freshman Dominique Harmath knotted the score at 1-1 with a straight set win at No. 2, but Arkansas clinched the match with wins at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions before senior Jessica Jackson gave the Owls their second point with a win at No.3.

The Owls will continue their stretch of six consecutive road matches with a match against C-USA rival Tulsa on Tuesday.
