HOUSTON - Arsalan Kazemi scored a game-high 20 points while Connor Frizzelle and Trey Stanton each scored in double figures off the bench as Rice knocked off TCU 70-61 in Tudor Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Rice heads into Conference USA play this week on a two-game winning streak. The Owls are now 8-6. TCU lost its second straight road game to a C-USA opponent to fall to 9-6.

Rice trailed by as many as 10 points early in the first half as the Horned Frogs started the game off hot from the perimeter. The Frogs buried 5-of-8 three-point attempts in the first half.

Rice missed its first seven three-point attempts before Frizzelle's three-pointer in the final seconds of the period tied the game at 30-30.

Out of the intermission Rice scored the first 11 points to go up 41-30 on Stanton's triple. The bucket was Stanton's second straight field goal with both coming off assists from freshman point guard Trevan Abraham.

The closest TCU would come in the second half four points. Greg Hill scored inside for the Horned Frogs with 2:02 to play to cut the margin to 60-56.

Rice would work the clock before a TCU foul led to a pair of Frizzelle free throws. And following a pair of missed three-pointers by the Frogs, Tamir Jackson went to the line twice for a series of four free throws that stretched the Owls' lead to 65-56 with 1:01 to play.

Hank Thorns would stop the late Rice run with a layup and following two more free throws by Jackson, Thorn went to the line for three shots when he was fouled on a three-point attempt. He knocked down all three shots to close the gap to 68-61 with 24 seconds to play but finished off the game with two shots at the line.

Kazemi was 10-for-11 at the line on the night and go 5-for-7 seven from the field. But the sophomore had a streak of four straight double-doubles come to an end with an eight-rebound effort against the Frogs.

Jackson's six free throws in the final minutes led to him finishing with 12 points, marking his 13th straight double-figure scoring game. Frizzelle finished with 14 points. Stanton was 4-for-7 from the field and finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

TCU was led by Thorns' 18 points. Hill added 12 off the bench while Houston native Garlon Green knocked down 3-of-8 three-pointers to finish with 11.

The Horned Frogs' leading scorer, Ronnie Moss, did not play on Sunday after suffering a concussion in last week's game against Tulsa. Moss is currently averaging 15.3 points per game. He is just four points shy of reaching the 1,000-point plateau.

Coming up on Wednesday, the Owls will open Conference USA play at home against Tulane. TCU begins play in the Mountain West Conference on Wednesday at home against San Diego State.
