Rice junior Rebekka Hänle has been named first team All Conference USA in women's tennis, the conference announced Wednesday. Hänle was joined by teammates Jessica Jackson (second team) and Julie Chao (third team) in earning postseason recognition from C-USA women's tennis coaches. Chao and Ana Guzman were honored in No. 2 doubles.
Hänle posted a 13-9 record while playing all season at No. 1 all season and closed the regular season ranked 80th in the country. She closed the season with a four-match winning streak and won seven of her last eight. He final win of the year came in the conference championship, a straight set defeat of 75th ranked Alexandra Kichoutkin of Tulsa.
Jackson led the Owls with a 15-7 record in singles, including a 12-6 mark at No. 3. She closed out the year by winning her last four matches. At the conference championships, she lost a total of five games while winning both matches in straight sets.
Chao closed out her career as a four-time All C-USA performer in singles. She was 8-13 in 2010, and earned C-USA Player of the Week honors following her clinching performance in the Owls upset of #18 Arkansas with a come-from-behind, three set win over Emily Carbone. She and Guzman finished the year ranked 43rd in the country after posting a 15-6 record at No. 1 doubles. They were 3-2 against ranked doubles opponents including a win over 16th ranked Irene Rehberger and Melissa Koning of South Florida.
