IRVING, Tex. - For the second time in as many weeks, and the third time in the month of December, Rice women's basketball player Jessica Kuster has earned Conference USA's Freshman of the Week Award.
In Rice's only action of the week, Kuster scored a game-high 16 points while making her first career start in the Owls' convincing 82-46 victory over crosstown foe Houston Baptist on Dec. 21. The standout from Reagan High School in San Antonio also had seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and a pair of assists in the victory.
Kuster has strung together a sensational set of games the last four weeks, culminating with her third C-USA WBB Freshman of the Week Award this month. The 6-foot-2 forward first earned the honor on Dec. 6 after averaging a double-double at 22.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in the Owls' home tournament. She earned the honor again on Dec. 20 after scoring a team-high 15 points and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds at Arkansas-Little Rock (Dec. 18).
The Rice women's team is not in action again until a road game at Northwestern State on Dec. 28. The Blue & Gray then face Texas State in San Marcos, Tex., on Dec. 30.
