Bradshaw Named Second-Team Academic All-America

Rice junior safety Travis Bradshaw has been named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America® Football second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The junior from suburban Houston carries a 3.44 GPA in Chemical Engineering at Rice while also ranking among the NCAA career active leaders in solo tackles and forced fumbles. Bradshaw led the nation in solo tackles as a sophomore and ranks ninth among active players with 209 career solo stops. He is tied for ninth with eight career forced fumbles. Last Saturday in the Owls' 62-38 win over East Carolina, Bradshaw was credited with four tackles, moving him into 10th on the Rice career tackle chart with 281. He also intercepted his second pass of the season.

A former walk-on, Bradshaw earned second team Freshman All American honors as a redshirt sophomore in 2007. He has been selected to the ESPN Academic All-Di strict VI team in each of the past three years.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

The Academic All-America® program currently selects 12 teams at the University Division level and 12 teams at the College Division level. The program currently selects the following Academic All-America® teams: men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's cross country and track, women's cross country and track, men's at-large and women's at-large.
