NCAA Cross Country Championship Central
Terre Haute, Ind. -- The Rice Owls women's cross country team competes for the sixth time at the NCAA Div. I Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 22. It is also the Owls' fourth appearance in the last six years.
The NCAA Championship takes place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's race begins at approximately 11:08 a.m. (Central), followed by the men's race at approximately 11:48 a.m.
Rice earned an automatic bid to the championship by placing second at the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 14.
Competing for head coach Jim Bevan's Owls are seniors Nicole Mericle, and Britany Williams, juniors Becky Wade, Allison Pye and Halsey Fowler, sophomore, Meredith Thompson, and freshman Meredith Gamble. Mericle won the 2010 South Central Regional for the second time, first being in 2008, and was named the region's top female runner. Williams placed eighth at the South Central, while Fowler was 14th and Becky Wade placed 20th.
A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Central time, Monday, November 22, on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18 from 12 to 1 p.m. Central time on CBS HD.
