Rice sophomore Harry Fowler won a pair of straight set matches on Monday to advance to the singles final at the USTA-ITA Regional Championship at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station. Fowler's teammate, Jonathan Chang captured the singles title in round one consolation bracket with a pair of straight-set victories.
Fowler upset Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M, the regional's third seed in two hard-fought sets, 7-5, 7-6, then dispatched of TCU's Emmanuel Brighiu, 7-6. 6-1 to earn a spot in Tuesday's final against Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Chang downed Chris Camillone of Texas 6-2, 7-5 and then downed Denis Ermilov of Lamar in the in final, 7-6, 6-0.
Rice's third remaining competitor, Sam Garforth-Bles fell to Kellen Damico 6-2, 7-6 in the quarters of the round two consolations.
