The 35th-ranked Rice men's tennis team opened their 2010 season with a pair of wins, sweeping Lamar and Prairie View by identical 7-0 scores.
Senior Bruno Rosa opened his final season with the Owls by dropping just one game while taking a pair of wins at No. 1 singles. Rosa, who was ranked 19th nationally and 5th in the region in ITA's preseason rankings, defeated Richard Filkuka of Lamar (1-1) 6-0. 6-0 and Kuda Nyatoti of Prairie View (0-1) by scores of 6-0. 6-1.
A total of eight Owls picked up a win in singles while five different doubles teams also saw action.
The Owls will travel to College Station next weekend to take on 25th ranked Oklahoma State in the first round of the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship qualifier. They return to the Jake Hess Stadium Court on February 5 when they host 29th ranked LSU at 1:30 p.m.
